This project reveals the original spatial and material qualities of a Victorian brick warehouse in a Clerkenwell Conservation Area.
At first floor level a new mezzanine structure has been inserted between the existing roof beams, accessed by an new oak staircase. Elsewhere frameless glass screens have been constructed inside doorways, allowing the original timber doors to be propped open and the spaces to flow. The existing staircase spine wall has been clad in oak. The studio spaces are lit with hanging fluorescent tubes, referencing the buildings original use as a chain manufacturing workshop.(as HUT)
